Rand exchange rates
Convert a rand amount using European Central Bank reference rates, fetched through Frankfurter. The rate is dated. It is not the rate a bank or bureau will give you.
How to use it
- Enter a rand amount. Leave the quote as all currencies, or pick one.
- Read the rate date. ECB rates are a daily reference and do not move through the day on this page.
- Do not use the figure to price a transfer. Ask the bank or bureau for the rate they will actually apply.
Questions
- Where do the rates come from?
- European Central Bank reference rates, as republished by Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.app). No API key is used.
- Are the rates stored?
- They are cached in server memory for up to six hours so the public source is not called on every request. They are not written to the database. The amount you convert is not stored.
- Why is the rate different from my bank?
- A reference rate has no retail spread. A bank sells rand at a different figure, and card schemes add their own rate.
An automated client can POST JSON to /api/tools/zar-rates with the fields listed in the OpenAPI document. The OpenAPI document is at /api/tools, with a short guide at /llms.txt. Nothing submitted is stored.
