DNS and domain lookup
Enter a public domain. We read the DNS records and nameservers, then the registrar and expiry from the public registration data. The propagation line compares two public resolvers. It is a hint, not a check of every resolver.
Public DNS and registration data only. Nothing you type is stored. The propagation line compares two resolvers and is a hint, not a full check.
How to use it
- Enter a domain such as example.co.za. A URL is accepted and reduced to the hostname.
- Compare the nameservers with the company that should be hosting the DNS.
- If the two resolvers disagree, wait and check again before changing records.
Questions
- Where does the expiry date come from?
- From the public registration data (RDAP), when the registry publishes it. Some registries hide the date.
- Does a green propagation line mean every resolver agrees?
- No. It compares two public resolvers only.
- Can this look up a private hostname?
- No. Local and private names are rejected.
